| On November 7th 2008, MEDIA Desk Belgium – Flemish Community and the
European Games Developers Federation (EGDF) will host the first European
Games Summit at Kinepolis Brussels. MEDIA Desks and Antennae from the Netherlands,
Luxemburg, UK, Denmark, Belgium – French community and Berlin Brandenburg
are also participating. The Summit precedes NEXT , Belgium’s biggest yearly event on gaming and consumer technology, which has a nocturnal opening at the same date, only 500 meters away from Kinepolis. |
||
| The main idea of the Games Summit is to support and stimulate the European gaming industry, in line with the recent policy decision to include game research and development in the FP7 and MEDIA programmes, and the French tax decisions in favor of the industry’s development. The Games Summit is the first high level event that emphasizes the growing importance of the gaming industry to Europe. | ||
| The event will bring together national and EU officials,
potential investors, game developers and other stakeholders to highlight
the successes and future potential of the industry in Europe. More specifically, the event will examine the industry’s growing influence on European economies and the political challenges it faces, the potential social benefits and the know-how and skills it contributes to society. At the same time it will also point out the complexities of game development and creation, and why games should not be judged as a poor cousin of film and TV.. |
||
| The Summit will open with the keynote address by Flemish Minister of Economy, Enterprise, Science, Innovation and Foreign Trade, Patricia Ceysens. Speakers include Alexander and Hector Fernandez, Guillaume de Fondaumière, Fred Hasson, Pam Kato, Erik Robertson, Paul Zeeuwts and Bas Bogaert, among others. | ||
